The Merced Theatre is hosting a screening of The Princess Bride this August.
This free movie screening is part of The Merced Theatre’s ongoing rotation of programming that includes an eclectic mix of concert performances and unique interactive film screenings.
The Rob Reiner-directed The Princess Bride was penned by screenwriter William Goldman, who also wrote All the President’s Men and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, both of which won Goldman Academy Awards.
The film centers on a farmboy-turned-pirate, played by Cary Elwes, who must go on a quest to reunite with his true love, played by Robin Wright. Along the way, our hero meets a colorful cast of characters, including a revenge-seeking swordfighter played by Mandy Patinkin.
At the very least, the screening is an excuse to explore The Merced Theatre, which is a local attraction in its own right since the 1920s. In 2009, the theater was added to the National Register of Historic Places. With a 100-foot neon-soaked tower catching the eyes of passersby at its exterior, the interior of The Merced Theatre also boasts unique Art Deco and Spanish Colonial Revival architecture.
Movies like this may choose to use poster printing to create promotions for events or season schedules for venues.
The Princess Bride is playing on August 11 at 7 pm, with doors open at 6:30 pm, at The Merced Theatre at 301 W Main St. in Merced.
