Acrobatics show flies into Merced

The Merced Theatre is hosting the Peking Acrobats this February.

Drawing on Chinese traditions, the Peking Acrobats incorporate modern elements of performance, including comedy and stage craft, into physically demanding spectacles and balancing acts.

The family-friendly show mixes grace and precision in a unique physical performance that requires years of training and discipline.

A stage performance that goes beyond mere stunt work, there is an emphasis on finding the balance between the mind and the body, bringing ancient folksy traditions into a modern, high-stakes show.

With over 100,000 acrobats studying in Chinese schools each year, the centuries-long tradition is akin to Western opera. Students start as young children and require over a decade of training before they can become performers. The Peking Acrobats represent the cream of the crop of China’s talent, as they tour the world with their performance.

With its origins in the Ch-in Dynasty from 221-207 BC, the art of Chinese acrobats has become a worldwide phenomenon, with the Peking Acrobats helming performances in Central and South America, Zimbabwe, Southeast Asia, South Africa, Monte Carlo, New Zealand, Europe and across the United States.

Performances like this may choose to use brochure printing for show breakdowns, schedules and audience guides.

The Peking Acrobats are performing on February 1 at 7 pm at the Merced Theatre at 301 W Main St in Merced.
