UC Merced will hold a symposium in April where guests can listen to book talks from two notable authors.
The Migration Matters Spring Symposium is an event that showcases the Books created by Asad L. Asad and Jane Lopez. The discussions at the symposium will be about Engage and Evade and Unauthorized Love. Guests may participate in a raffle to win the Books featured in the program.
Asad L. Asad is an assistant professor who works for Stanford University in the sociology department. He has written works that were featured in publications like the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Social Science & Medicine, and the Law & Society Review.
Jane Lopez is an assistant professor at Brigham Young University who also teaches sociology. Her courses include Current Social Problems and Ethnographic Research Methods. She has worked on several peer-reviewed articles with other writers like John D. Skrentny and Isaac William Martin.
The symposium organizer is Dr. Stephanie L. Canizales, a professor and researcher at UC Merced who is also part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She has also taught sociology at Texas A&M University.
