Adult Day Programming returns to Merced

The PALS program provided by the Valley Caregiver Resource Center returns next month, providing much needed support for the caregivers of adults with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

The licensed seniors daytime support center provides social interaction and entertainment, for adults who are in the early stages of Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Participants are led through art projects, activities and are encouraged to socialize and find friendships. The program strives to maintain their participants personal independence and increase their self-esteem, while providing supportive care.

The Valley Caregiver Resource Center also seeks to provide support to the participant’s caregivers and relieve stress. By enrolling their loved one in PALS, caregivers may continue to care for their loved one, and also work outside the home on a full-time basis. The center also offers monthly support groups for caregivers, free counselling on prescription drug plans and Medicare benefits, and a Caregiver Resource Program. Printing services are frequently used to produce educational resources on health topics such as these.

The care center will reopen on Tuesday July 6th. It will be available on weekdays from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with nutritious snacks provided in the morning and afternoon. A maximum of eight participants are assigned to each of the facility’s staff members daily. The PALS program offers flexible attendance, with affordable lunch options. Financial assistance may be available from donations made to the center.
