The California Symphony is offering a series of classes on enjoying and appreciating classical music this summer.
Fresh Look: The Symphony Exposed is designed for adults who are curious about classical music and interested in attending orchestra performances. The class will have four Wednesday evening sessions in July. The first will cover the basics of classical concerts, such as which instruments will be played and how they sound, as well as the conductor’s role in the show. The second and third sessions will focus on specific composers, including Beethoven, Mozart, and important figures from the Romantic period. The final session will cover the current state of the orchestra and how it has changed over the centuries. Some members of the California Symphony will also perform during the last session.
The course costs $30 per person, which attendees will receive back as a voucher towards a concert ticket for the upcoming symphony season. Participants can sign up on the California Symphony website. Classes will meet in the Don Tatzin Community Hall at Lafayette Library. The space is ADA-accessible, and the library offers free parking. Course instructors often use printing services to provide handouts to their students.
The Fresh Look class series will take place on Wednesdays July 10, 17, 24, and 31, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on each night at Lafayette Library.
