The Generations in Jazz Foundation is running its annual Lafayette Summer Music Jazz Workshop this July.
The weeklong workshop ends with a concert on Friday afternoon and evening from 3:30 pm to 10:00 pm at Stanley Middle School. The concert is free to attend and open to the public. A detailed schedule for those interested in seeing a specific person or group perform will be available closer to the concert date.
The program is open to participants in middle school, high school, and college, as well as adults. While the regular application deadline has passed, late auditions will be considered if there is space available. Applicants need to submit an audition video and a written music theory test. Details about the requirements for specific instruments are available on the workshop’s website.
The workshop includes masterclasses, theory lessons, and practice time with assigned combos. Participants will be assigned to a masterclass and combo group based on their submitted audition tapes. Instructors often use printing services to create handouts for this type of event. Generations in Jazz has been running the summer workshop since 1999. It also offers music education and performance opportunities, including jazz honors bands for middle and high school students in Contra Costa County and the Rossmoor Big Band.
