The communities of Walnut Creek and Concord each will be hosting their own Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving.
To build an appetite for Thanksgiving Dinner and assuage the effect of all of those calories, many locals enjoy the challenge of a Turkey Trot. This year, there are two possible locations for participating in an organized Thanksgiving Day run in proximity to Lafayette.
The closest Turkey Trot to Lafayette is being held about 4.5 miles away in Walnut Creek on Thanksgiving. The Walnut Creek Forma Gym Turkey Trot takes off at 8:00 am from Civic Park. Festivities include a costume contest that will take place at 9:30 am. Youngsters can take part in the “Kids Fun Run” while adults can choose from a 10K or 5K run. Adult registration costs $40, and its $14 for 12 years and under.
Just a little further away, Concord is holding its own Turkey Trot on Turkey Thursday beginning at 8:00 am. A free Kids Drumstick Dash starts at 8:00 am and is open to youngsters aged 10 and under. For those 11 and up, the 5K/10K Run & Walk starts at 8:15 am. Food, drink, and pumpkin pie will be available prior to, during, and following the race. The cost is $40 for advanced registration.
When races are sponsored by a commercial enterprise, participants and even spectators often receive ad specialty items that the company hopes will increase its name recognition.
