The Bentley School, here in Lafayette, will be hosting a panel discussion on the topic of ‘Women in Science and Engineering’ later this week.
Science Thought Leaders Night, an annual event now in its third year, will host a panel of experts in various scientific fields, as well as in engineering. Astronomy, computer science, engineering, medicine, and physics will all be represented by women who will speak on some of the gender-related issues that affect the number of women entering these fields.
The panel consists of a number of women with PhDs in STEM courses, with UCSF professor in residence and San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center chief radiologist Dr. Judy Yee among them. Experts in astronomy, electrical engineering, mathematics, and physics will also have their say.
The entire community is invited to the evening event, which takes place at the Bentley School at 1000 Upper Happy Valley Road. Everyone is urged to participate in the discussion to address the gender equality issues in all aspects of life rather than just science and engineering. With the event hoping to be the catalyst for an increase in women at the top of these fields, it could lead to increased demand for digital Business Cards with PhD behind a woman’s name.
