Race to elect Lafayette Chamber members

The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce is hoping a number of business owners and professionals will run for a seat on the chamber’s Board of Directors.

A petition to enter the election is currently available online and at the chamber office. Eligible candidates need to get signatures from five current members of the Chamber of Commerce, and this year, the signatures can be signed virtually.

The term begins January 2021 and ends in December 2022. The Chamber Board is composed of 2 to 3 directors-at-large, 17 elected members, and a group of advisors, who do not get to vote on chamber policy issues.

The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce began in 1947 when a small number of business owners got together to foster a healthy business climate and a better quality of life for the people of Lafayette. 70 years later, the Chamber has grown to include more than 600 professionals and businesses. One of the benefits of membership is that businesses get to display their Business Cards at the head office.

The Board of Directors makes all the policy decisions and is the final authority for the Chamber. Chamber members are required to sit on at least one chamber committee, attend the monthly board meetings, and take part in the annual planning retreat.

The deadline to return the signed petition to the chamber office is September 25. The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce is located at 251 Lafayette Circle. Chamber members will receive ballots in the mail and voting will take place between October 1 and 15.
