Lafayette is joining a national effort to educate and raise money for Alzheimer's disease. Called ‘The Longest Day’, it is held every year on the summer solstice, which is the longest day of the year.
The Longest Day fundraisers take place all over the country and around the world, and can be any activity an individual or groups chooses, such as runs, walks, yoga classes, or music concerts. Money raised go to the five million people who are suffering from Alzheimer's and the 15 million people who care for them – for awareness, care, research and support through the Alzheimer's Association.
In Lafayette, there is an early morning walk scheduled, called the Sunrise Stroll to End Alzheimer's Disease.
Before the walk begins there is a Sunrise Yoga Class. Kate Sharkey from Atma Studios will be leading the class in honor of her grandfather.
According to the Alzheimer's Association, the world has 50 million people living with Alzheimer's or other dementia illnesses at a cost of $818bn. Donations can be made online, and organizers want to raise $3,000 for the cause.
Local independent fundraising events like this one can use local flyer printing and banner printing services.
The Sunrise Stroll to End Alzheimer’s Disease is scheduled to take place Friday, June 19, from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at the Lafayette Reservoir, 3849 Mount Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette.
Residents are asked to meet at the west trail entrance near the bandstand.
