The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce is urging residents to play it safe this Halloween, and is organizing a special event to keep things fun.
For the Lafayette Halloween Dress Up Drive, the idea is that people dress up in their scariest Halloween costumes and drive around Lafayette instead of trick or treating door-to-door.
The Chamber is encouraging homeowners and business owners to decorate their properties with lights, fog machines, and anything else that will give a spooky and scary vibe. Participants are also encouraged to decorate their vehicles.
Lafayette hopes that businesses will begin decorating their properties in the weeks preceding Halloween. Business and homeowners can register their properties through the City of Lafayette website. Participating properties will be marked on a special online map that can be downloaded. Businesses that participate in events such as this one can use Print shops for Banners and other marketing materials.
City officials are warning against passing out candy, calling it a BYOC (Bring Your On Candy) event, and recommend socially distancing at all times.
The Lafayette Halloween Dress Up Drive town tour will take place on the evening of October 31. Home and business owners need to register their properties on or before October 23. The official Dress Up Drive map will be on the City of Lafayette website the week of October 26.
