Cal Shakes is hosting a night of Native comedy performances this summer.
Good Medicine: A Night for Live Native Stand-Up will feature Native comedians including Larry Omaha, Dakota Ray Hebert, Jana Schmieding and Brian Bahe. Jackie Keliiaa, the founder of Good Medicine, will host the show, which will take place outdoors in the Bruns Memorial Amphitheater. The venue attracts audiences from Lafayette and other towns throughout the region.
Before the performance, an artisan market featuring Native artists and vendors will be open for attendees to browse. Shops such as Where The Land Meets the Sky Studio, Turquoise Hogan Creations, and Kirbear Yorok Designs will offer jewelry, clothing, art, and more. Vendors often use banner printing services to promote their businesses at craft fairs. Attendees are welcome to purchase food and drinks at Cal Shakes’ Cafe or bring their own into the venue.
After the comedy show, attendees can finish the night with dancing and live music from Native bands. DJ Interval will host the dance party, and bands including Native Redbone and The Halluci Nation and local Tower of Power will perform. Tickets are available on the Cal Shakes website. The cost is $25 per person for regular seating and $40 per person for premium seating.
The show will take place on Saturday, July 8, starting at 8:00 pm. Doors open at 6:00 pm.
