Topaz, the golden eagle at the Lindsay Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek, just a short distance from Lafayette, recently returned to her role as Wildlife Ambassador.
The eagle had to take several months off to recover from some foot issues. In addition, those that took care of her went through a change and so did her presence in the exhibit hall.
Topaz originated in the region of Lake Tahoe, near Lake Topaz, after which she is named. She came to the Walnut Creek animal care location due to an inability to fully extend her wings, which meant she was unable to sustain long-term flight. When she came to the center, she was very ill, with mites in her feathers and an internal mass that was causing an infection and required surgery. She has been at the Lindsay Wildlife Experience since December 2005.
She is available for viewing during the month of January on Thursdays from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, when the museum closes. In February, her viewing time will begin at 3:30 pm. The short amount of time she is available for viewing is to allow her to continue to recover from her earlier foot issues.
The staff may be using additional newsletter printing services to let the public and members of the museum know when additional dates and times might be added for viewing Topaz.
