Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Cha’s are coming to Southern California, along with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Together, the two will put on a Mardi Gras Mambo at the California Center for the Arts, featuring musical genres of R&B, zydeco, New Orleans soul, Cajun, and the blues.
Zydeco is a blend of R&B, blues, and music of the Native American people indigenous to Louisiana, as well as Louisiana Creoles. Zydeco and Cajun music have different origins, but have had an impact on each other. Zydeco is syncopated and up-tempo, and the band is usually led by the accordion, with specialized instruments, such as a washboard known as a “vest frottoir,” drum, keyboard, bass, and electric guitar making up the rest.
The Zydeco Cha Cha’s have earned critical praise:
“Nathan Williams never disappoints…putting out the best Zydeco in the business.”
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band formed in 1977 in New Orleans, where they are still based, and won a Grammy in 2023 for Best American Roots Performance. The New York Times says:
“The Dirty Dozen Brass Band continues to be a national treasure; steeped in both the past and the present, impossible to categorize and mighty funky.”
The concert is Saturday, February 10 at 7:30 pm. Concert organizers will often promote events like this using poster printing.
