A cultural celebration coming up in Escondido marks one of the most important days in Mexican history.
Fiesta Patrias 2025 commemorates the day that sparked the Mexican Revolution, though it is not Mexico’s independence day.
The Revolution was the reaction to the harsh rule Spain imposed over Mexico, which became a Spanish colony in 1521. By 1810, discontent had created growing resistance. One of the leading figures was Father Miguel Hidalgo.
In 1810, he spoke from the pulpit in a small town called Dolores, saying he was planning to take up arms to fight Spain. The speech is now known as “El Grito de Dolores,” the “Cry of Delores.” The revolutionaries struggled for six years before Mexico gained its independence, but Father Hidalgo’s speech lit the spark, and the festival celebrates it.
Fiestas Patrias is celebrated worldwide today. In Escondido, the fun includes live performances by mariachi musicians, Banda music, family games, artisan craftspeople, food vendors, and giveaways. A beer and spirit garden is planned, and two iconic Mexican characters will be in the park. There will be Charros (cowboys), in their traditional dress, and Catrinas, the iconic female skull characters of the Day of the Dead celebration.
The event is free and takes place Septenber14. The venue is Grape Day Park, and the festival runs the entire day, from 11.00 am until 9.00 pm. When they plan colorful events like this, organizers often use banner printing to create decorations.
