Guitar masters to appear in Escondido

Guitarists from throughout the world will perform soon in Escondido.

The Center Theater at the California Center for the Arts is hosting International Guitar Night (IGN), an exciting concert featuring Germany’s Lulo Reinhardt, grandnephew of legendary Django Reinhardt, playing Latin Swing; Jim “Kimo” West from Hawaii, a master of the Slack key; Vietnam’s Thu Le, who specializes in progressive classical guitar; and Italian Luca Stricagnoli, who plays acoustic rock. This type of event often benefits when organizers use poster printing to create striking advertising.

Django Reinhardt was celebrated for his mastery of the jazz guitar. Lulo has taken his great-uncle’s style and added Latin rhythms to it, producing his own Latin Swing style.

Jim “Kimo” West won a Grammy in 2021 for “More Guitar Stories,” and was nominated for a Grammy in 2019 for his album “Moku Maluhia.” He has also been nominated for the Na Hōkū Hanohano (Hawaiian Grammy) three times, and won the LA Treasures Award for upholding the Slack key tradition.

Thu Le plays classical guitar and teaches music. She has appeared as a solo performer worldwide, and has hosted master classes in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, the UK, and North America.

Luca Stricagnoli rearranges classic rock numbers for acoustic guitar, and plays his versions on instruments he invents himself, such as the Reversed Slide Neck. He has earned the attention of rock superstars like Metallica and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The concert is set for Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 pm.
