Escondido is one of three cities in the North County that have been chosen to receive state grant money for local parks.
The state's 'Housing-Related Parks Program', which is funded through the Department of Housing and Community Development, is providing grants totaling around $34m for upgrading or creating new parks or other recreational areas across California. For Vista, Escondido, and San Macros, $2m of that money has been set aside for dispersal among them.
How large of a grant a city receives is based on that community’s quantity of affordable housing with credit being given for how many units a city had acquired, allowed, upgraded, or saved in the last five years. Vista received the largest amount ($932,000), which reflects its huge construction boom including a proliferation of affordable housing. Escondido is to receive with a little more than $685,000 and San Marcos almost $450,000
Each of these three cities will no doubt wish to consult with a printing company to promote their planned improvements to public recreational areas.
Vista will use its grant in its Townsite Neighborhood to upgrade three recreational spaces. San Marcos will use its funds on Richmar Avenue to transform a 1.8-acre dirt lot into a green oasis complete with a picnic area and playground. In Escondido, the grant money will be spread out among several pools, parks, and community centers.
