Escondido celebrates Herencia Mexicana Festival

Escondido will celebrate Mexican Independence Day in September with its annual Herencia Mexicana Festival.

There will be traditional Mexican mariachi music and folk dancing, and of course popular Mexican foods like tacos. There is no admission fee, and there are family-friendly events all day long. Colorful dancers from more than 30 areas of Mexico will be performing.

The first Herencia Mexicana Festival took place in 2016 and attracted hundreds of people. This will be the fourth year for the event.

According to its website, the festival says vending spaces are still open and available for the day-long gathering.

The event is staged by the Harencia Mexicana Foundation, a non-profit group dedicated to conserving and promoting Mexican folklore, culture, music and cooking.

Mexican Independence Day is an important holiday for the people of Mexico and Mexicans living in the United States. Celebrated on September 15 and 16, it is the day Father Hidalgo made a moving speech in 1810 credited with starting the revolution that eventually led to Mexico’s independence from Spain. It is often confused with Cinco de Mayo in the U.S.

Raising awareness of cultural and community events such as these is made easier with banner and poster printing.

The Herencia Mexicana Festival is Sunday, September 15, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kit Carson Amphitheatre, 100 Amphitheatre Rd. in Escondido.
