Residents of Escondido may not notice the difference, but the 911 system in the area is about receive a boost.
The city council recently approved a grant to fund its emergency dispatch center. It is felt that it will be more efficient and will also ensure that it keeps in line with the requirements set by the state.
A spokesperson for the Escondido Police Department Lt. Ed Varso noted that the system needs to be upgraded nearly every five years, and that time has come around again. The cost for this is estimated to be $383,452.30.
Much of the enhancements will be to the software, which will need to be replaced as it cannot simply be upgraded. It will cut the time for calls to be routed from the caller to the dispatcher to the first responder, and it will also allow for VoIP calls. A company that provides Mailing services can create and mail out items to all community households to let them know about these enhancements and how they can affect them should there be an emergency.
An added feature of the new system will be that, should the need arise, it can be operated by two offsite laptops. This would mean 911 service could still be provided should there be a problem at the dispatch center.Get a Free Quote for Mailing
