Star Wars fans based in Tucson will have multiple opportunities to celebrate its unofficial holiday in May, otherwise known as "May the Fourth Be with You."
On May 2 and 3, the Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium is hosting a Laser Galaxy Far Away event from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm each night. Audiences will be treated to a full-dome laser show set to the music of Star Wars, as well as space-themed pop music from the likes of David Bowie, Daft Punk, Queen, and Beastie Boys. Tickets include access to the science center’s new Mysteries of the Cosmos Exhibit.
For those in the running mood, a Star Wars-themed 5K is being held in Tucson on Sunday, May 3. The race, which includes opportunities for cosplay and costume contests, begins at 7:30 am at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park and runs along the north bank of the Rillito River.
Those who miss out on these opportunities can still enjoy a screening of Star Wars featuring a live musical performance by the Tucson Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, May 17 at 2:00 pm at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall. Conductor Matthew Kasper leads the iconic ebbs and flows of John Williams’ original score as Luke Skywalker begins his hero’s journey to defeat the evil Empire.
