The Rialto Theatre in Tucson is hosting a performance by clipping. this August.
The experimental rap group features the vocal performances of Daveed Diggs, a winner of a Tony Award and a Grammy Award, known as much for being a famous actor as he is for his musical chops.
Diggs was part of the original Broadway production of Hamilton, playing the dual roles of Founding Father Thomas Jefferson and Marquis de Lafayette, which won him those aforementioned awards. He has since appeared in a variety of movies and TV shows, including the film Blindspotting and the shows Black-ish and The Boys.
With clipping., Diggs fronts the group and is the sole rapper, performing alongside electronic music producers Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson. Each album is created using almost all originally sourced sounds and has a different concept behind it. Their latest effort, Dead Channel Sky, takes its name from a line in the William Gibson novel Neuromancer, as the album’s narrative and aesthetic theme is cyberpunk.
The group took on other sci-fi themes with the space station-based narrative Splendor and Misery and The Deep, about an ocean-based civilization, both of which were nominated for Hugo Awards.
