Carondelet St. Mary’s in Tucson is now home to a fully accredited breast center, and is the only one in Southern Arizona.
Prior to this, patients needed to travel north to Phoenix for two hours in order to get treatment from a center with this distinction.
According to Dr. Chris Reed at The Breast Center, which was given the accreditation by The American College of Surgeons National Accreditation Program, doctors now have the ability to examine mammograms all day and provide their patients with the best possible care in their own community.
Dr. Reed added that women often become frightened upon learning that they have cancer, but he can now reassure them that they will be able to be taken care of in a facility that has the best resources for treatment.
The Center needed to work hard and get high marks in 28 areas in order to receive this achievement. In so doing, a sound environment has been created for patients as the Center is equipped to perform breast biopsies using both MRI and ultrasound techniques.
