Video communications company to expand in Tempe

A new research and development center will be built by Zoom in Tempe, as more people turn to video calling to stay in touch with one another.

As this facility will be creating several hundred high-paying jobs, business card printing services will most likely be needed for these new employees. The jobs have already been posted online. The company said that it wanted to be close to Arizona State University as its engineering program attracted the company to the area.

The president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, Chris Camacho, said that this move will help to boost the economy in the state. He added that a company like Zoom is the kind of company that will help an economy to grow. He said that typically a company that features jobs in software engineering can create three and four positions in other sectors of the economy per software engineering job.

Elliott Pollack, an economist, said that Zoom’s move to the area is a positive sign for the state. This means that median income jobs will be brought to Arizona. He added that even though the state’s economy was strong before the pandemic, he is hopeful that it will return to being just as strong or stronger in the future.

Officials from Zoom said that all employees will work from home until the offices are built, with completion expected by this fall.
