University in Tempe to begin new graduate program

Arizona State University in Tempe will be launching a new master’s program in innovation and venture development this fall.

The program will be a partnership among three departments— the W.P. Carey School of Business, the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, and the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering—and take one year to complete. A graduation requirement will be that students create a new product or service that solves a business problem. Business leaders in the community will be asked to submit problems for consideration to the leaders of the program.

Program director, Chery Heller, said that students will work in teams to solve problems that cover a range of challenges, from problems of a local nature to those more international in scope, from social ventures to digital innovation, and from for-profit to non-profit. She added that students will basically be entrepreneurs for the entire scope of the program. Brochure printing can be used to provide participants with more information about such unique programs.

Business executives, experienced entrepreneurs, and program advisors will guide the students and their ventures throughout the course of the program. Venture capitalists and investors will review the projects for possible funding after graduation.

This program is the first of its kind in the country and is designed to prepare students with the skills needed to launch successful ventures in any sector or industry, and in new as well as existing organizations.
