Tempe to experience new improvement projects

Several major developments are planned for Tempe this year.

Banner printing is often used at such development sites to inform residents of current and upcoming projects.

An amount of $16m will go towards the revitalization of Clark Park in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city. Among the upgrades are the installation of lights over the basketball court, the doubling of the number of parking spaces, and the amount of community use space, as well as refurbishing the little league baseball field. In addition, a new playground is being built that will provide amenities for children with special needs, and a new community pool to replace the one closed in 2008 due to safety concerns. The improvements to Clark Park are expected to be completed this summer.

Another investment of $3.6m will go to widening and buffering bike lanes on Alameda Drive to improve safety for bike riders, and narrowing three miles of Alameda between Rural Road and 48th Street. Additional measures to calm traffic will include installing new traffic signals and improving access on the sidewalks.

Developments are being considered for Tempe Lake. One would be to build an NHL arena for the Arizona Coyotes, along with 2,000 apartments and an entertainment district west of Town Lake. The other is a “resort-inspired” community with shops, apartments, and restaurants.
