Tempe seeks ideas for town lake

Upgrades to the Rio Salado and Beach Park at Tempe Town Lake are being considered by the Tempe City Council.

These upgrades would be completed over the next 20 to 30 years and are part of the Request for Information (RFI) of the Beach Park and Rio Salado Master Plan. This is a comprehensive planning document that provides recommendations for long-term improvements the city has received. The RFI includes focuses on four categories—water, air, land, and support amenities. Print shops are often hired by those who want to create an impressive proposal for such requests.

Among the ideas presented for use of the land are themed gardens, a carousel, new playgrounds for kids, and a fitness court. Ideas for use of the air include a zipline across the lake at a speed of 25 miles per hour, bungee jumping, a sky ride, and an adventure course. The water plans feature a surf pool, a boat tour, an obstacle course, and a water slide, among other attractions. Amenities being considered are improving parking, adding more food options, and enhancing access to bathrooms.

Those in the community who want to contribute their ideas to the plan need to do so before Thursday, November 5, at which time a report will be compiled for the city council and mayor. Suggestions can be made via the city’s website.
