A new exhibit is currently running at the library at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe.
Designed by Suzy Morgan, the manager of the Conservation Lab in the Hayden Library, the exhibit is called “What is a Book?” and approaches Books with in a more material fashion. It presents an appreciation of Books as objects available in many different formats, covering histories of craftsmanship, artistry, classification, and culture. Such unique exhibits are often made known throughout the community with poster printing.
The exhibit is on the ground floor of the Hayden Library and displays a wide range of Books. Among the Books on exhibit are large and small Books, Books with various kinds of moving parts, and pop-up Books. Morgan said there is also a book earring.
Morgan said the idea for the exhibit came to her as she feels that the very presence of Books has meaning for many people, even if they do not read them. She said that people have Books they plan to read; Books that have useful purposes, such as holding up monitors; and others that become like furniture.
The Conservation Lab in the library is where Books and other materials are repaired and preserved for ASU. Morgan said that she and her staff at the Lab in a world of constant discovery of Books and the many items kept in them.
The exhibit runs through January of next year.
