The city’s project to improve the infrastructure at Tempe Town Lake is continuing to progress, and a major milestone was recently reached that will allow the work to continue.
In order to facilitate the construction of a new dam, the lake was completely drained. This will make it possible to replace the old dam, which was inflatable, with one that operates through the use of hydraulics and is made of steel. Once it is complete, it will be the largest structure of its kind in the whole country.
The new infrastructure will consist of eight gates, which will be mounted on a system that uses a foundation of roller compacted concrete. It will use hydraulics to raise and lower the gates, depending on how much rainfall is being experienced at the time. They have been designed so that when they are fully up, they will still allow about two feet of water to pass over them.
The construction will continue throughout the month, and according to the city, the lake should be refilled and ready for the public to enjoy by the end of April. A Print company can produce everything from Banners to Invitations for VIPs, and plenty of other items that can be used for the grand opening ceremonies of major civic projects such as this.
More information about the dam is available on the city’s website.
