Special event coming to Tempe-area museum

A themed day has been planned for the Pueblo Grande Museum and Archeological Park, and residents of Tempe have been invited to attend.

The institution will be marking World Atlatl Day, and to help celebrate, the SALT primitive skills group will be putting on a demonstration of how this weapon is used and also hosting an accuracy contest. Visitors to the museum will have a chance to try one out for themselves and even participate in the competition.

The atlatl is an ancient weapon that was used even before the bow and arrow was developed. It consists of a hooked stick that holds either a dart or spear and allowed it to be thrown will greater force, speed, and distance than was possible if they were used alone.

The World Atlatl Day celebrations will take place on June 4 and will run from 9:00 am until noon. Admission to the museum is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $3 for children ages 6-17. Younger children are admitted free of charge. There is no additional cost to participate in the atlatl-themed events. A banner printing company can design and then Print decorations for special events such as this.

The Pueblo Grande Museum & Archaeological Park is located at 4619 E Washington St in Phoenix, and further information can be found on its website.
