New pizzeria comes to Tempe

Via 313, a shop which specializes in Detroit-style pizza, will be opening in Tempe across the street from Arizona State University (ASU). It will be on Rural Road, north of University Drive, in the Cornerstone Development.

Poster printing is often used to promote such new eateries and their specialties around a college campus and throughout the community.

The signature dish of Via 313 is a rectangular pizza baked in a metal tray. This creates a chewy yet crispy crust with cheese-heavy edges. There are dairy-free and gluten-free options for pizza on the menu.

The founders of Via 313 are Zane and Brandon Hunt, who are brothers. They started the business in a trailer in Austin, Texas in 2011, and named the pizzeria after the area code of Detroit.

Via 313 serves a variety of Detroit-style pizzas, as well as bar-style pizzas with thin crusts. The menu includes salads and appetizers such as cheese bread, meatballs with marinara, and roasted cauliflower and broccoli. Desserts include a Boston Cooler (which is a Detroit original) and cinnamon sticks.

The location of Via 313 in Tempe will be the brothers’ first outside of Utah or Texas, and will be the 16th location of the pizzeria in total. They note that their locations in Texas tended to draw a following among college students, so they are hoping that this location right across from Arizona State University will continue with that trend.
