An investment of $17.5m will be made by the Arizona Commerce Authority in Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe to expand the manufacturing of advanced semiconductors in the state.
This will enhance the research and development, and workforce training capabilities, in the state. It will also create a research and manufacturing ecosystem of gallium nitride to enable further technological advancements in the future.
Announcements of such funding and their benefits for an industry and the state are often made known throughout the community and the state with flyer printing.
The funding will be used by ASU to purchase equipment to enhance the MacroTechnology Works at ASU in Tempe. The gallium nitride and advanced Packaging research will be expanded to support machine learning, the Internet of Things, 6G technology, and more. There will also be workforce development initiatives that will include university joint research, internships, and research development of joint partnerships with NXP Semiconductors in Chandler.
Michael Crow, president of ASU, said this is an important step in ASU’s pledge to advance semiconductor research and development, and manufacturing, in the country. He said that the university has created a Microelectronics Workforce Development Hub and the MacroTechnology Works facility, and the two are working together with NXP and the Arizona Commerce Authority to accelerate the success rate of developments in this area.
