The South Pier at Tempe Town Lake project has been approved by the Tempe City Council.
This will be a mixed-use entertainment development that will offer office space, a hotel, retail space, and condominiums and apartments as well as plaza and central green spaces. Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about the features and amenities of such developments. It will be south of the lake on East Vista Del Lago Drive in one of the most popular tourist destinations. It is expected to cost $1.8 billion. South Pier Holdings was selected as the developer.
Maria Laughner, Economic Development Program Manager for Tempe, said that the project is expected to guarantee benefits to the public with a contribution of $4.7 million to public transit, $250,000 to Tempe schools, and $10 to affordable housing. Laughner added that this is in contrast to the $7.1 million of annual financial implications for the city as the site sits undeveloped.
Corey Woods, mayor of Tempe, has said that the city needs to try something different as other such innovative projects in the city have worked and been successful. South Pier at Tempe Town Lake is expected to create a world-class waterfront experience that will offer a neighborhood unlike any others in the area.
The project is expected to be built over 15 years in seven phases.
