Dragon Boat Festival to return to Tempe

A celebration planned for Tempe will put Asian culture front and center.

The 2016 Arizona Dragon Boat Festival will see a variety of activities, capped off with the dragon boat races. There will also be food booths and a variety of vendors on site, as well as performances by musicians, dancers, and martial arts demonstrations.

The boats themselves will be decorated and powered by teams with as many as 20 paddlers. They will be kept in rhythm by a passenger who pounds a drum, which also represents the beating heat of the dragon. There will be a variety of different teams, with teens, men’s, women’s corporate, and groups brought together by a special interest, such as breast cancer survivors, all taking part. Printing companies can help to make events like this a success by producing everything from T-Shirts to Banners, Signs, registration Forms, and more.

Funds raised through the festival will be donated to help support the Arizona Disabled Sports.

The festival will take place on Tempe Town Lake’s north shore on October 1 and 2. There is no admission price charged to attend, and parking is also free. Those who are interested in registering a team can do so before September 16 at a price of between $75 and $900, depending on what sort of team it is.
