Art festival returns to Tempe this spring

The Tempe Festival of the Arts, one of the top contemporary and classic shows in the country, will be held later this month.

Held twice a year in the spring and fall, the event typically attracts close to 225,000 people to the downtown area over a three-day weekend. Such events often turn to banner printing throughout a city to promote themselves.

There will be as many as 375 artist booths at the festival along Mill Avenue and neighboring streets, showcasing their unique, and handmade artwork which is available for purchase. The artwork is from 17 different visual art categories that range from ceramics to photography, and from jewelry to wearable art, among other categories, and from artists throughout North America.

A jury of members from the local art community review the applicants, ranks them in each category, and selects the ones that rank the highest to participate. A different jury at the festival determines the best artists and the top artist in each category. These artists receive cash awards.

The festival also features street performers and live music, wine and beer gardens, and a range of food trucks. There is also a curated chalk section where professional chalk muralists can compete for awards and attendees can experiment with street chalk.

The festival will be held from Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.
