Queen Creek kids and teens to practice business skills

Acton Children’s Business Fair is partnering with Mari McWilliams, a young local entrepreneur, to host a Children’s Business Fair in Queen Creek this fall.

The fair is designed to allow young entrepreneurs aged six to 17 to experience running a business with real customers and to give the community a way to support these kids and teens. Participants can sell a service or product they make themselves, such as jewelry, art, baked goods or anything else they can imagine. Entrepreneurs are encouraged to create a brand and marketing strategy and are responsible for pitching their product and selling it to customers. They are also in charge of pricing and can keep all of their profits after the fair.

Entrepreneur applications are now closed. Those who plan to attend and shop are asked to reserve a free space through Eventbrite, but this is not required. Organizers often use flyer printing services to promote this type of community event.

Acton Children’s Business Fair has held more than 5300 fairs in 870 cities. The nonprofit Acton Academy’s founders believe that children learn best by doing, so the fairs are experience-based with no lectures or formal instruction. Mari McWilliams, the Queen Creek partner, started her own business at age 12 and wants to inspire others to do the same.

The Dream Builders Children’s Business Fair will be on Saturday, November 7, from 10 am to 1 pm, at Frontier Family Park in Queen Creek.
