Queen Creek Chamber to host civics competition

The Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce is hosting its inaugural Civics Bee for local middle school students this winter.

Students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades were invited to submit a 500-word essay about an idea for solving a problem in their communities using civics between November 13 and January 8. Writers of the 20 best essays will participate in an in-person quiz event to demonstrate their knowledge of civics.

The Chamber is awarding cash prizes to the top three entrants, in the amounts of $500 for first place, $200 for second place, and $125 for third place. Students who place in the local competition will have the opportunity to advance to the national championship Civics Bee, which will take place in Washington, D.C. this fall.

The Queen Creek Chamber is partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to host the competition. Event organizers often use banner printing services to highlight major sponsors. Civics Bee events are taking place in 28 states this year as part of the Chamber Foundation’s focus on improving civics education. The Queen Creek Chamber believes that informed citizens make for a better country, as well as a better economy.

The East Valley Civics Bee will take place on Friday, February 23 from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon at Combs Performing Arts Center in San Tan Valley.
