Pop art band and folk artist take stage in Phoenix

Phoenix will host a performance by the band Tennis and the solo artist Alice Phoebe Lou in August.

The show will be part of Tennis’ farewell tour, which kicked off earlier this summer. The art pop band was formed 15 years ago when its members (and now romantic partners) Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley met in at a college class in Colorado. They then sailed the sea together for six months and wrote songs along the way, forming the genesis of the band.

Tennis’ debut album in 2011 was based on that sailing trip, called Cape Dory. Their final album, Face Down in the Garden, will be their swansong for the tour.

Alice Phoebe Lou is known for her indie folk sensibilities, often focusing on slice-of-life narrative songwriting and love songs. Lou, 31, was born in South Africa but now calls Berlin home. The singer, who avoids the limelight when she is not on stage, has a voice with a high register that weaves self-reflective lyrics into her work.

Lou started performing music on the streets of Berlin at the age of 19. She has been consistently releasing official music, both EPs and albums, since 2014.
