Phoenix hosts free hike

A hiking event along the Piestewa Nature Trail is coming to Phoenix this December.

The free excursion is hosted by the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department and led by a ranger.

Educational opportunities will be part of the festivities, including subjects ranging from hiking safety to local natural resources, recreational programs, and improving one’s health.

Known for its scenic views, the Piestewa Nature Trail has a number of different routes, ranging from moderate to extremely difficult. The forthcoming hiking event begins at the 304 Trailhead and is considered a moderate difficulty level.

Hikers can expect to encounter some rocky terrain as they traverse the 1.4-mile loop with a 180-foot elevation change surrounded by wildlife habitat. Native Sonoran trees, wildflowers, and other plant life can also be observed throughout the hike. The trailhead also has a drinking fountain and restrooms.

The Piestewa Nature Trail represents just a small portion of the more than 200 miles of trails Phoenix has to offer in total. All ages and experience levels are welcome to the hike, although there are some requirements, such as registering ahead of time, bringing plenty of water, and dressing in the right hiking gear.

Hiking events like this may choose to use poster printing for displaying information about trail routes.

The Let’s Hike Right, PHX! event is happening on Sunday, December 28 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at the Piestewa Nature Trail at 7200 N Piestewa Peak Drive in Phoenix.
