Floetry is coming to Phoenix’s Celebrity Theatre for a performance this May.
The duo, composed of Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie “The Floacist” Stewart, helped redefine what modern R&B can be by incorporating elements of spoken word and soul, with their 2002 debut Floetic album going platinum. Both their first album and their sophomore effort, Flo’Ology, feature tracks that routinely make appearances on everything from DJ set lists to romance soundtracks to this day.
This latest tour represents the group’s first appearance on stage in 10 years. Floetry’s stop in Phoenix also features special guest Raheem DeVaughn, known for his socially conscious music.
The 16-city tour was announced back in April and has so far included stops in Newark, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Chicago, among other cities. The R&B artist Teedra Moses, DJ Aktive, and Clint Coley have been among the support acts joining the group on select dates.
Built in 1963, the Celebrity Theatre began as a combination convention center and concert venue, with its first foray into the latter being of the musical South Pacific, starring Betsy Palmer, in 1964.
