Man of La Mancha is coming to Phoenix’s Herberger Theater Center this October.
The Broadway musical inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ 17th-century novel Don Quixote traces the story of an aging knight whose chivalric ideals, which he learns from romantic Books, lead him to take on absurd adventures.
Debuting on Broadway in 1965, Man of La Mancha would secure the Tony Award for Best Musical the following year, along with the awards for Best Composer and Lyricist for Joe Darion and Mitch Leigh, respectively, Best Actor in a Musical for Richard Kiley, Best Direction of a Musical by Albert Marre, and Best Scenic Design for Howard Bay. The original Broadway run lasted until 1971, with more than 2,000 performances.
Some of the most notable songs from Man of La Mancha include “I, Don Quixote,” “The Impossible Dream (The Quest),” and “Dulcinea.”
For the Phoenix production, Tony Award-winning performer Paulo Szot fulfills the role of the delusional yet courageous knight Don Quixote, with the Musicfest Pops Ensemble providing the score.

Man of La Mancha is playing on October 23 at 7:30 pm, October 24 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm and on October 25 at 2 pm. All the performances are happening at the Herberger Theater Center at 222 E Monroe St in Phoenix.
