The Chandler Police Department honored those who volunteered during 2018 at the recent Annual Awards Volunteer Appreciation Banquet.
The banquet gives the police and community members a chance to say thank you to the volunteers who are part of the V.I.P. program. More than 700 Chandler residents have given up their free time to help the police keep the community safe.
A number of different awards were presented during the evening. The Unit Citation Award went to the Lockbox Team. This award is given to a unit or team of volunteers whose action embody the department's mission statement: to provide a community that is safe, where people can work, live, and thrive. Sponsors of events like this can use banner printing to decorate the venue.
Volunteers who regularly exceed the normal requirements of the job, and who performed one outstanding act, receive the Special Recognition Award. This year the recipients were Nathan Zdilla and Dwight Thayer.
Volunteers who serve more than 1,000 hours from the time they join the program are eligible for the Bronze Lifetime Achievement Award, which this year was earned by John O’Hair-Schattenberg. A similar award for longevity in the program was awarded to Leslie Oie, who served more than 2,000 hours and received the Silver Lifetime Achievement Award.
Outstanding performance during the period earned Dale Kline the Volunteer of the Year Award, and Thomas Gorey won the Lifetime Achievement Award for serving more than 6,000 hours with the program.
