Musical group with classic sound comes to Chandler

Chandler’s Center for the Arts is hosting The Doo Wop Project, a musical group consisting of several members attempting to revive a sound from a classic era of mid-20th century music.

In their concert, Echoes of the Street, the Broadway performers level up their mission of reviving the doo-wop genre. They cover the greatest classics from that vein of pop that took over the Billboard charts in the 1950s and 60s, including The Tymes’ So Much in Love, The Temptations’ My Girl, and Del Vikings’ Whispering Bells.

However, The Doo Wop Project does not merely look to the past alone for inspiration, having also taken to identifying modern pop hits ripe for transformation and reimagining them in the style of doo-wop, including with artists such as Daft Punk, Taylor Swift, Chris Stapleton, and Pharrell Williams.

With its goal of introducing younger generations to the genre of its namesake, The Doo Wop Project has performed all over the country for the past 10 years and released five studio albums. The event is happening on Sunday, April 12 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Chandler Center for the Arts at N Arizona Ave. Ticket prices range from $42 to $62.
