South Charleston families are invited to attend the 51st Annual Rock & Gem Show and Halloween Market's Spooktacular, both of which are coming in mid-October.
Attendees at the Rock & Gem Show can look forward to cracking geodes, finding fossils, viewing and buying gems and minerals, and going on a scavenger hunt. Kids can participate in free crafts.
Guests may take pictures of themselves in front of a life-sized replica of a Dimetrodon skeleton (an ancient pre-dinosaur quadruped). Pictures like these often go to Print shops for duplicates.
The show will take place Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19 at the South Charleston Community Center, 601 Jefferson Road.
Just prior to that weekend, on Friday, October 17, South Charleston Farmers Market will be holding its Spooktacular Night at the Market.
There will be the traditional Trunk or Treat, candy drop, and touch-a-truck. Trunks of vehicles decorated for Halloween will be filled with candy and costumed little ones will go from one to the next collecting the treats.
A local hook-and-ladder fire truck will be dropping candy. The candy drop will be divided into age categories with the youngsters aged three and under participating at 6:00 pm, the four through seven age group at 6:20 pm, and those aged seven to twelve at 6:40 pm. Teens will get their chance at 6:50 pm and adults will have their turn at 7:00 pm.
The Spooktacular will take place from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at 4006 McCorkle Avenue.
