South Charleston will be celebrating the season with a tree lighting ceremony and parade.
The annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Mound will begin with Photos with Santa at 5:30 pm, and free hot chocolate and cookies. Attendees will want to bring their own cameras. Line up for the Deck the Cart parade will begin at 5:30 pm on 1st Avenue. Lighted golf carts adorned with holiday decorations will be rolling down D Street beginning at 6:00 pm. The parade has been organized to benefit the Maddox Potter Foundation. A drone show will begin at 6:30 pm and the Tree Lighting Ceremony will be at 6:45 pm.
This year's Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Mound will take place Friday, December 5th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at 7th Avenue and D Street. Admission will be free.
The next day, Saturday December 6th, The South Charleston Annual Christmas Parade will step off at noon on D Street. The procession will feature floats (decorated by local organizations, schools, businesses, and other community groups), drill, dance and athletic teams, marching bands, and holiday characters. Kids are to bring Bags to collect the candy that will be thrown from the floats.
Santa will make his grand arrival at the end of the parade.
Cities that hold seasonal events like these often have pictures taken during the festivities. These photos often go to local Print shops to be added to visitor Brochures.
