Riding for veterans in The Falls

This September, Menomonee Falls’ American Legion Post will present its first fundraising motorcycle ride.

Proceeds of the Angels of the Road Veteran's Ride by the Henrizi-Schnieder AL Post 382 will go to the Homeless Veterans Initiative of Milwaukee. The Homeless Veterans Initiative began in 2008 and serves veterans who are homeless or at-risk, enabling them to be as independent as possible.

On the day, around 300 motorcycle riders will check in and have breakfast at the American Legion Post. Then they will go to four different American Legion Posts around Waukesha County, which are joining in the ride to enjoy food or various activities – Pewaukee’s ALP 71, Delafield’s ALP 196, Hartland’s Flanagan-Dorn, Inc Post 294, and Brookfield’s Cudworth-Stenz-Grisell-Smith ALP 449. The locations will stamp the riders' Checkpoint Charlie Card and riders will end their journey back in Menomonee Falls around 3:00 pm. There will be an ending celebration with food trucks, drinks, music, and raffles.

The cost to enter before August 1 is $25 per vehicle and $15 for each rider after the first. Preregistering comes with a bandana. After August 1, prices rise to $30 per vehicle and $20 for more riders.

Printers could be creative with the graphic design of the cards each post stamps when riders come in during the September 9 event, perhaps taking inspiration from military or motorcycling.
