Public to weigh in on proposed cell tower
The Menomonee Falls Plan Commission has gone over a recent proposal to put up a cell tower in the downtown area of the village.
The cell tower will be erected by Nexius and AT&T. The tower is proposed to be 95 feet tall, with a 90-foot bank of antennas. The company intends to install the tower on Appleton Avenue adjacent to where the Fresh Thyme grocery store used to be located.
The proposal was first put before the village board in August. The applicant asked that the report be tabled, and it was put back in front of the commission during a meeting in September after the applicant submitted a new analysis of the tower’s line of sight. The board used photographic simulations to determine whether the new tower would affect the beauty of the village’s skyline. Graphic design could also be used for similar visualizations.
Matt Carran, the Village Director of Community Development, referred to a staff report which said that:
Representatives from Nexius and AT&T stated that the new tower is needed in order to fix a coverage gap that is affecting the downtown area. The public will be able to weigh in on the issue at a public hearing scheduled for October.

“The Planning Department noted that the proposed location of the cell tower would be inconsistent with the village’s and the Downtown Business Improvement District’s ongoing efforts of downtown economic development, revitalization, and historic preservation.”
