New Falls presence for the visually impaired

Industries for the Blind (IB) has moved some of its operations to Menomonee Falls in order to serve the labor force better.

Governor Scott Walker was one of the state and local government officials who attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Walker thanked the administration and workers at Industries for the Blind and those who helped it come to the village. The facility is 98,000 square feet and joins existing centers in West Allis and Janesville, both of which have a visually impaired employment rate of at least 75%.

The company helps those who are visually impaired find meaningful employment. It supplies office-related products across the United States, such as furniture, equipment, fittings, and common office accessories. It also provides branded and custom-made knitting.

According to CJ Lange, CEO and President of Industries for the Blind, the company started in 1952 by making writing and sweeping implements. Decades later, the government hired them through contracts.

The company hopes to improve employment levels for the blind around the state, which was one of the reasons it opened a new location in the village. It also has devices to help employees with their jobs, such as lighting and magnification.

A printing company that works with IB will need to use large and simple fonts to make it easier to read for visually impaired employees, and may be able to print in braille for those with no sight at all.
