Micro-hospital planned for Menomonee Falls
Ascension Wisconsin and Emerus Holdings are teaming up to open a micro-hospital in the village of Menomonee Falls.
The facility will consist of eight beds for inpatient care and an emergency department. It will be the third of its kind in the Milwaukee Metropolitan area, with Froedtert Health having worked with another company to open one in Oak Creek and a second in Mequon. Many see micro-hospitals as a cost-effective way for medical systems to supply more diverse healthcare to patients while bringing in patients that would normally go to competitor-owned hospitals.
Ascension Wisconsin's presence in the village is set to expand with the health system's planned additions, such as a clinic. The company's ministry market executive Bernie Sherry said he understands the importance of accessible and convenient healthcare to patients and their loved ones. The medical center combines inpatient and outpatient care to locals.
The emergency department at the micro-hospital will be on the first floor of a building spanning 33,000 square feet. Emerus Holdings, the biggest micro-hospital management firm in the nation, will be responsible for its operation. Emerus will also hire the staff physicians, Ascension Wisconsin spokesperson Kathleen Fugler has confirmed.
Ascension Wisconsin Emerus JV LLC will own the micro-hospital, which is a joint project between the two companies involved. Healthcare systems often use promotional pens for patients to fill out paperwork, meaning that if the patient accidentally takes the pen, it at least advertises the system.
