Merit Scholars shortlist announced
Multiple high school students in Brookfield near Menomonee Falls have made it to the semifinals of the National Merit Scholarship Program.
On September 12, the names of 16,000 students in the semifinals from across the United States were announced. Four news releases will come out from April through July announcing the overall winners. Around 338,000 students have been honored as Merit Scholars.
Most of the candidates will become finalists, and then half will win a scholarship and the title of Merit Scholar. The scholarships total over $31m.
From Brookfield Academy, the semifinalists are Austin Cherian, Andrew Laeger, Isabel Thomas, and Cecelia Youso.
From Brookfield Central High School, the semifinalists are Amy Cao, Daisy Chen, Sabrina Huang, Andrew Kim, Vincent Li, Katherine Liu, Rajat Mittal, and Reena Yuan.
From Brookfield East High School, the semifinalists are Namitha Alexander, Jordan Bartosiak, Jacob Franz, Guilherme Galhardo, Billy Huang, Michelle Li, Taidgh McManus, Amber Rothe, Nikhita Santebennur, and Anouska Siva.
Founded in 1955, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) does not use government aid and is a nonprofit. It exists only for the scholarship program. NMSC pays for itself through the contributions of various businesses and institutions that want to assist in rewarding academic achievement, says a recent news release.
Prestigious organizations like these often send out letters to semifinalists and finalists of programs to let them know of their status. These letters often have distinguished personal letterheads unique to the organization.
