Harley-Davidson recognized by WMC
Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) has named Harley Davidson Inc. motorcycles ‘The Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin’. The company is from Milwaukee but has a plant in Menomonee Falls.
Voting for the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest took place online. Other popular contenders the motorcycle company beat include Johnsonville Sausage brats and Marinette Marine Littoral combat ships.
According to WMC President and CEO Kurt R. Bauer, the state is known for the competition between boats, bikes, and brats. There were almost 300 companies nominated in the contest, which is why Bauer considers Wisconsin to be the best state for manufacturing goods as it has been throughout its history.
The headquarters and museum are located in Milwaukee, but there are seven Harley Davidson plants. Only two plants are in Wisconsin but almost half of the company's space is located in the state. There is the 226,000 square-foot facility in Tomahawk and the 915,000 square-foot facility in Menomonee Falls, which is producing the new Milwaukee-Eight engine for the 2017 model.
Harley-Davidson Powertrain Operations Pilgrim Road general manager Randy Christianson expressed his glee for receiving the award, especially since sales of the model started increasing last month as the public has taken to the Milwaukee-Eight.
Salespeople for Harley-Davidson around the country could take advantage of ad specialties with local printing companies to help sell the new motorcycle model.
